Accommodating Green has been involved in developing sustainable tourism strategies and partnerships in various international destinations. Accommodating Green conducted a study in Sanya, Hainan China to examine the level of environmental management in the tourist accommodation industry. The study examined the motivational, organizational and impeding factors that affect the implementation of sustainable practices in the tourism industry. Following the study, Accommodating Green developed a series of multi-stakeholder workshops to discuss how to increase the level of environmental management in the accommodation industry. These workshops were the catalyst to developing a sustainable tourism partnership in Sanya, China to ensure the support and continuous momentum from the study. The partnership provides the required resources to the industry and supports sustainability in a rapidly growing Chinese tourism destination. View Presentation - 
Accommodating Green has been involved with the Gili Trawangan Ecotrust to develop a sustainable tourism strategy for the island of Gili Trawangan in Indonesia. The strategy was developed from an extensive environmental assessment and stakeholder consultation process on the island. It consisted of a waste management plan including composting and recycling, public health strategy, sewage and water management , public education, the implementation of an eco tax, coral reef regeneration, and a multi stakeholder island committee to facilitate future decisions on planning, building and environmental management. |

Director: Sonya Graci |
Currently is an Assistant Professor in the Tourism and Environment Department at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. She is also very close to completing her Ph.D. at the University of Waterloo in the Department of Geography. Her dissertation focuses on developing sustainable tourism partnerships for increased environmental action in China.
Sonya Graci has had seven years work experience with the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. She has worked mainly in environmental assessment but has also played a large part in developing beyond compliance partnerships between the government and chemical industry, as well as participating in the development of Ontario’s environmental leaders program.
